I have a stray, that came and went in the family, by the name of August Jager. He married my greatX3 grandmother in 1862 (family oral history), and they emigrated to San Francisco, California in 1866 (per her 1900 census), with her daughter from her first marriage. August was definately around in 1871, when he signs his stepdaughters marriage certificate, but, we don't know what happens to him after that. Family oral history has him owning a beer brewery in San Francisco at one time. Family rumor also remembers that first husband, Philip, was a cabinet maker in Hamburg. Katharina's death certificate (filled out by a daughter) states that Katharina's parents were a J. REIL and Katherine HESS.
