Hi,

I don't know anything at all about Jonathan Jagger, but as his wedding certificate says that he was in the North York militia, there should be records of him in their archives. It would just be a matter of hunting down where those records are kept. At that time there was some law about able bodied young men having to join a militia as they were scared of Napoleon invading, and I know that Dunbar had a big fort, so I presume that's how he ended up there.

Rebecca Jagger had a quite tragic life. She moved to Glasgow with her father - I don't know if her siblings went too. She then had 9 illegitimate children, at least some of them by a John Gerrard (I can't find anything about him at all). Almost all the children died in childhood. My family is descended from her eldest daughter Mary, who married and moved to Maybole. She died in her twenties. Eventually my great-grandfather moved back to Glasgow, and lots of the family are still there today.

Do you know anything about Jonathan's wife Ann, or Rebecca and Thomas' parents and siblings?

Regards,
Morwenna
