I found this "thread" or "set of messages" ...by doing a search for John E Jeffers.

My John E. Jeffers was born in Connecticut. I don't know if it's the same one but it is close to the right timeframe. I just find the name interesting as it keeps reappearing in my family and ...that is exactly what my family did. The kept using the same family names over and over.

John E. Jeffers that i have was born just before the american revolution...and his parents were Joseph Jeffers and Ruhamah Downing. John E. had brothers Joseph, George and possibly a Benjamin, also a sister Mary. There may have been other siblings. Interestingly ...I lost John E. and Benjamin but ...george and Joseph both had John E.'s and ...I lost those lines .. *shrug*...the name interests me.

It interests me more knowing someone was born in New Haven...it's right across the river from New London..apparently from what i read....a jeffers was given a grant by the king to start a ship building place in New Haven...(going by memoroy so i may be wrong)...then..jeffers decided the location wasn't so great ..it would be better placed in New London. So he somehow managed to move the whole operation. Also ...there's a jeffers family there that decends from some...oh i donno they were Royal something. I'll have to find the links for you.
