Diane,
I am also an African American Jessup. Most of my ancestors lived in Surry and Stokes Counties in NC and in Patrick County, VA. However, I've recently found some African American Jessups who lived on the eastern shore of Maryland and in Northumberland County, VA. You didn't say where in Maryland your folks originated. Could your Jessups have been a part of that eastern shore clan? If so, I'll be happy to send you the information that I have.
