Mildred Johnson Morris, 94, formerly of Erwin, Carter Co TN, died Monday, September 28, 2009, at Asbury Place of Johnson City, Washington Co TN. Mrs. Morris was an Erwin native and a former resident of Richmond, VA, and Boston, Massachusetts, before returning here in 1973. She was a daughter of the late J. Lee and Carey Taylor Johnson. Mrs. Morris was a Civil Service employee retiring from the Bureau of Hearing and Appeals in 1972 after thirty years of service. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Carson- Newman College, Jefferson City, in 1937 and a combined Business Degree from Smithdeal-Massey Business College, Richmond, VA, in 1940. Mrs. Morris was a member of First Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl L. Morris; her brother, Charles Lee Johnson; and an infant sister, Evelyn Johnson. Mrs. Morris is survived by several cousins, including Billie Neas, Jerry Neas, and Sherry Lamb, all of Greeneville, TN, Doris Ann Mills, Jerri Lynn Dehart and Bobby Gibson, all of Morristown, TN, Kimberly Clifford of Freeport, Maine, and Rebecca Clifford Pride, Falmouth, Maine. The graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at 10:30 a.m., in Evergreen Cemetery with the Reverend Tony Rutherford officiating. Inurnment will follow.
