The ancestry of President Andrew Johnson has not been established earlier than his father, JACOB JOHNSON Of Raleigh, N Carolina, ostler, janitor and constable, b 5 April 1778, m 9 Sept 1801, Mary (Polly) McDonough (b 17 July 1783; m 2ndly, Turner Daughterty, of Raleigh, N Carolina, and d 13 Feb 1856), and d Raleigh, N Carolina 4 Jan 1812, having had, with other issue (see brother and sister of President Andrew Johnson, p 315), ANDREW JOHNSON, 17th President of the United States of America.
