This is an update to information on this family posted in 2003 to this forum.
James H. Johnston, born in Georgia, married a woman named Sarah about 1872. They were living in Chandlers, Talladega county, AL in 1880. As is often the case, their surname was misspelled as “Johnson.”
Sarah died before 1894 when James married Jennie Bell Limbaugh, daughter of George and Rachel Limbaugh of Childersburg, Talladega, AL.
James and Sarah had at least eight children; his second marriage produced six children. At the time of his death in 1918, eleven of his children survived him. They are:
Wade Hampton Johnston, age 44, of Albertville, Marshall, AL
Janie Saunders, age 40, Birmingham, Jefferson, AL, wife of Robert Saunders
John F. Johnston, age 38, Brent, Bibb, AL
James Willis Johnston, age 36, Sylacauga, Talladega, AL
Luke W. Johnston, age 34, Sylacauga, Talladega, AL
Marvin M. Johnston, age 32, Birmingham, Jefferson, AL
George T. Johnston, age 31, Sylacauga, Talladega, AL
Hattie B. Limbaugh, age 25, Sylacauga, Talladega, AL, wife of George M. Limbaugh
From the second marriage:
Jessie M. Johnston, age 20, serving in the US Army in Maryland
Charles F. Johnston, age 16, Sylacauga, Talladega, AL
Harvey H. Johnston, age 12, Sylacauga, Talladega, AL
Three children died in infancy.
James’ death certificate states that his parents, Willis and Nancy Johnston, were born in Georgia. No other information is known about them at this time.
Any clues pertaining to any of the members of this family will be greatly appreciated.
