John Johnston was born sometime before 1782, was raised in Glascow, Scotland and married Jennet [?] who was also from Glascow. Jennet was born about 1787. They may have already been married when they came to Chester Co., SC. They had four children: Margaret 'Peggy' (born 1807 in SC) who married Joseph Ingram whose parents were born in Ireland; Jeane, born before 1816; James Johnston, Jr., born before 1816 and is believed to have been named for his grandfather; and Mary, born before 1816. 1816 was the date of their presumed grandfather's estate settlement. John Johnston died before or about 1816. I am trying to find out for sure who his parents were. All the research I have done points to his being the son of James and Mary [?] Johnston. (Could their names be any more ordinary?) James Johnson died after 27 Nov 1815 (date of will) and before 2 Mar 1816 (date will was proven). His son, John, predeceased him. Jennet Johnston is mentioned in his will, which is one reason I believe he was John's father. James may have been the son of Alexander JOHNSTON, Sr. whose estate papers were filed in Chester Co., SC in 1798 by his administrators, James and Mary JOHNSTON, who may have been appointed as early as 1793. Alexander, Sr. died between 3 Oct 1789 and 24 Jan 1793 (Chester Co., SC probate records Book A:355; loose papers in Apt. 31, pkg. 484). Any help with these Johnstons will be appreciated. I'm always looking for some more cousins. Notify Administrator about this message?
