Wm. in SC 1770s need link to Spotsylvania, VA.

With land records I have followed my ancestors to Newbery and Laurens, SC.

William, sr. and Ann Johnston had at least two sons, William, jr. and Richard.

William, sr. had a brother Robert who bought land in the Newbery area around 1757 and William, sr. bought nearby land in the 1770s.

William, jr. married Martha George, and they moved to Caldwell Co., Ky. about 1798 with the George and Adair families. This clan (Johnston, George, Adair families) moved to Dallas Co. in 1819/1820.

There are a number of indications that Wm., sr. and his brother Robert came from Spotsylvania Co. Va. Records provided by Norma Roberts were tantalizing but made no significant linkages.

Can anyone help me make the leap from Newberry, SC to Spotsylvania?
