Bertha Williese Blackwell
LETON, LA - Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha Williese Blackwell, age 89, will be held Sunday, September 20, 2009 at 2:00 PM in Old Union Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Igo officiating. Interment will follow in Whitehall Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Mortuary, Springhill, LA.
Visitation will begin Saturday at 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Bailey Mortuary, Springhill, LA.
Mrs. Blackwell was born November 5, 1919 in Leton, LA to Walter Murry and Ethel Mae Worley Johnston and passed away Friday, September 18, 2009 in Leton, LA. She was a lifelong resident of Leton, LA, a faithful member of Old Union Baptist Church where she had been church secretary and a Sunday School teacher and a homemaker. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Herron and husband, David DuPont of Shongaloo, LA, Myra Shelby Thrailkill of Shreveport, LA; sister, Louise Moore of Lake Charles; grandchildren, Susan Harris and husband, Don, Sheri Farmer and husband, Keith, Wendy Moore, Chad Herron and wife, Amber; great grandchildren, Jason, Elizabeth, Daniel, Sutton, Gunner, Cody, Jonathan, Chelsea, Benson Cayd and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Blackwell was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Roy Benson Blackwell; sisters, Marge Harlow, Norma Maynor and grandsons, Billy Herron and Wade Herron.
Pallbearers will be Chad Herron, Cody Cole, Jeff Dean, Lynn Knight, Steve Williams, David Johnston, Charles "Pud" Johnston and Larry Blalock. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Thomas, Gayle Blackwell, Jim Meritt, Gordon Merritt, Jonathan Brady, Don Harris and Keith Farmer.
