Looking for information on Williamses and Jolliffs who lived in Washington Co, IL, beginning in the 1830s
My interest is in Jane Combs who married Josiah Williams in Washington Co in 1835 and lived next door to Abner Jolliff in the 1840 census. I can't find either Jane or Josiah in the 1850 census, and they may have died, or she remarried.
I believe Jane Combs came to Washington Co,IL from Barren Co, KY with the James Jolliff family sometime between 1829 and 1835. Jane Combs had at least one and maybe two children out of wedlock in the late 1820s, shown in Barren Co court records. James Jolliff was the guardian of Benjamin Combs, of Barren co, KY, he being Jane Combs possible brother. Jolliff also lent Benjamin Combs money to buy blacksmith tools.
In the 1840 Census, Josiah Williams has two boys b 1835-1840 in the household, presumably the sons of Jane Combs and Josiah Williams. These boys were of the appropriate age to fight in the Civil War. There is too much of a coincidence that my Morgan ancestor, who grew up in Washington Co, IL, moved to Bates Co, MO after the CW and married Jane Combs' great niece. I believe that Sidney Morgan met one of these Williams boys in the war, or even knew him growing up, and traveled with him to Bates Co, MO after the war to visit the Williams relatives, the Combses.
Here are the names of Williams men in the same infantry regiment as Sidney Morgan and his brother Asa Morgan who also married a Combs girl in Bates Co MO:
WILLIAMS, AARON J Rank PVT Company I Unit 48 IL US INF Nativity WASHINGTON CO, IL Age 19 Joined When OCT 16, 1862 mustered out same time and place as Asa and Sidney Morgan. [Aaron's mother is listed in on-line lineages as a Jolliff, and his father, Rus Williams, is next door to a James Jolliff in the 1840 census, Washington Co, IL]
WILLIAMS, DEMPSEY K Rank PVT Company D Unit 48 IL US INF Residence NASHVILLE, WASHINGTON CO, IL Age 25 Joined When AUG 27, 1861 no muster out info. Same Company as Sidney and Asa Morgan. [I don't find any lineage that lists this Dempsey Williams on-line. This may be Jane Combs & Josiah Williams son]
So my question is, anyone know anything about Josiah Williams, Jane Combs, their 2 sons, or other children, and whether any of them went to Bates Co, MO after the Civil War?
