Since Mattie Clarks father died in the civil war in 1863, I would be curious to see a copy of the marrige certificate for her and Nicholas. I am curious to see who William Ruckam is to go into a contract of marriage for Mattie Clark. Her mother, Sarah, is still single in 1880 census he is not her stepfather. I do not think Sarah married again.
Also, the 1870 census shows Nicholas living with the childreen you list as well as one named Louisa, age 9. Shee falls between Albert, age 11 and Nicholas, age 7 on the census.
