David, thank you for the follow up. However, I know for a fact that John Kerley of DeKalb Co. was not the father of Mastin Kearley. I have a copy of the probate of his estate(1870) and he had only one son, William L, that lived in Clay Co. Al. I do think that maybe John was the older brother or uncle of Mastin. My Dad was born in 1902 and knew of John & his Plantation near Collinsville. But he never told me about the relationship.Mastin had two sons, the first was William (my gr grandfather) and then John.
William only had one son, my grandfather named John Pinkney.
The one thing was definite in our family. They insisted the spelling was Kearley not Kerley. In the old deeds, even in John Kerley's it was sometimes spelled Kearley. I agree that we are probably related to the Kearley's in Monroe So.
