I have recently started a Family Website and if anyone is interested, please email me and I will forward an invite to join, any combination of keevil/kevil is welcome... The following is an excert from a posting on the site by Dr Steve Keevil, who has completed some interesting research into the name... .......The accepted view of the origin of the Keevils is that they are a branch of a family called Maine, who came over from France and settled in many parts of England following the Norman conquest (1066). Our particular branch of the Maines settled in Keevil, Wiltshire, and in time became known as Maine de Keevil and eventually simply as Keevil. They left Keevil village in the fifteenth century, and of course are now spread throughout the world. The male line is traceable to the mid 15th century, with the earliest reference in 1201. The village still exists, but interestingly the inhabitants were not aware of the link with the family - although Keevils visit there from time to time (often from the US). I have now put this to rights! The Keevil Society (village, not family!) has published a 2 volume history of the village, and I have been asked to write a history of the family and its links with the village for Volume 3. I would like this to be as inclusive as possible, and to include details of the family in the US, Canada, Australia and elsewhere. ........ There are other postings with other interesting facts about the name...... Please feel free to email me if you would like any further information... Pennynk@aol.com
