Looking for information about my ancestors. My g/grandfather William Kernahan lived with is wife Mary Burnes on their farm in the townland of Mullanafarin, Drumlane Roman Catholic Parish, Co. Cavan (Griffiths Valuation 1850). William was probably from some other part of Ulster. Family was recorded on 1901 Census as Kernaghan. Known details of their children are as follows:
MARGARET: b abt 1859. Emigrated to Australia. Married Francis Owens in Adelaide abt 1881. Had two daughters, Mary-Kate & Maggie. Margaret died in 1895.
KATHRTN: b abt 1861. Emigrated to Australia. Married Edward McHugh (from Co Fermanagh) in Adelaide in 1889. Had 2 children Rose & John. Family moved to Sydney.
MARY: b abt 1864. Married John Burns in 1898 lived in townland of Drumanhy Rahan, Drumlane Co Cava. Died abt 1903. Only daughter Mary Anne (my mother),.
PETER: b 11/03/ 1866. Remained on the farm, married Maggie ???. Had a daughter Mary and four sons, John, Peter, William and James. John remained in Ireland. Peter, William and James emigrated to Australia.
ANNE: b abt 1867 Married Brian Fitzpatrick or Brian Fee?. Only known child was Thomas who emigrated to Sydney, Australia.
In Australia family were sometimes known as Kiernan.
