King William's War Forum

This was known as The War of the League of Augsberg, 1689 - 1697 in continental history which was against Louis XIV of France, the part in UK sometimes known as The War of the English Succession. William had formed The League of Augsberg to counter the French and had stated, " Without the concurrence of the realm and power of England, it is impossible to put a stop to the ambitions and greatness of France" William needed a Navy and so , with protestant support in Britain, deposed his Father-in-Law James II of Great Britain and Ireland ( who had been James VII of Scotland) who had French troops and a French General in Charge. William had English, Dutch, Irish Protestants, Huguenots, Prussians, Danes and Finlanders among his troops and his campaign was paid for by the Pope.
Confusing ain't it!
