According to Judy's research Francis' father was a Quaker from England who settled near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1801 and stayed there until he died at the age of 93.

In 1877 Thomas moved the family to Lonoke County Arkansas. He started with nothing and ended up with a fine farom according to the "Biographical and Historical Memoirs of Lnoke County, AR Goodspeeds Publishing Company, 1889 History of Arkansas, Pg 626.
