I have a Joh. Peter Kratz SR., 27 Oct 1727-17 Sep 1803, married to Anna Cathrina Kratz. THey had a son Johannes, born 1773. The father was the son of Johan Wendel Kratz. However, his mother's father was also a Johan Peter born 1684. This is from my research in LDS films 1197096 and 097. I can "hunt and peck" through the old writing and mistakes are always possible. The problem is that every boy in town has Johan for a first name, except the first-born who is always Johannes. It makes finding one individual in a large multi-line family, difficult. Especially when you are going from birth to confirmation to marriage records with nothing in between.
