I would much appreciate your assistance re the following POWELL family of LOGAN COUNTY:
My maternal gg-grandfather was BENJAMIN POWELL (wife unknown); among several of his sons were were AMBROSE and MARTIN POWELL. I descend from MARTIN (b. ca 1796, d. 1848) who married MARY (Polly) JARRARD circa 1826; MARY (b. ca 1797) and her siblings migrated from Sussex Co, VA, to Todd Co mid-1820s. One of their sons, my grandfather, was WILLIAM MARTIN POWELL, was born in Logan Co, 30 April 1830 and moved to Ballard Co, KY, ca. 1850-60. His only surviving child, NANCY GERALDINE POWELL, my mother, was born Wickliffe in 1885.
I have been told (no proof) BENJAMIN and MARTIN came to Logan Co from Robertson Co, TN, just south across state line. Also, I have been told (no proof on this) that BENJAMIN and his Powell siblings came to Robertson Co, TN, from Tyrrell Co, NC.
I met a distant (3rd/4th) cousin about 10-15 years ago who then lived in Russellville; am not sure she is still alive: MARY ELIZABETH RUPP nee VICK (or perhaps it was VICK nee RUPP) who said that distant Powell descen- dant/relatives still reside in Logan Co. Any way to make contact? I was orphaned at 7 years, so I have so little Powell data.
Does any of this sound familiar or make sense?? I would be grateful for your consideration and for even a negative reply.
