Gina Antoine had 3 wives: Angelica campeau M. 1759 Mary/Marie M. 1768 You see her referred to both as Marie (French) and Mary (English). Either is probably not her real name, but an adopted name. I have never seen anything indicating her indian name. The indians of this area had had contact with white traders and trappers for well over 100 years by this time. Charlotte Barth M 1784 The children you list are by the 2 nd wife. I have the same names but a different sequence. Joseph 1769 Antone 1771 Angelique 1773 Pierre 1775 Therese Descomps 1777 Cecile Descomps 1780 Marie Descomps 1782 Charlotte 1783 Only these children have the name "dit Badichon". I don't know why Therese, Cecile and Marie include the name "Descomps" and the others don't. Charlotte died late December 1783 and was buried 2 days later. Marie/ Mary died soon after probably due to weakness and complications from childbirth. My ancestor Pierre died at the Battle of Raison River (Monroe, Michigan) in 1813. I don't know as part of the malitia or the indian raid on French Town. There several websites that give a good narative on the battle. Antoine and Marie/Mary had a "country wedding". I have seen no record that they were ever formally married by a priest. I have seen records of the Baptism of several of the children and an entry indicating that Marie/Mary was baptized before she died. This has bearing on the legitamacy of the children and their status with the Catholic church. Hope this info is helpful. Linn Hartman Notify Administrator about this message?
