I am also researching this family and saw your post regarding Eulalie Alvarez Hortiz. Do you know if Eulalie's father Juan was a cousin or any relation to Eugenio Alvarez, who also came to St. Louis from the same area of Spain? Eugenio was a military store keep for the king of Spain. I read somewhere that Juan took his mother's name when he enlisted in the military in Spain.
