Barre could have been LaBarre at one time. There are many versions of the LaBarre name. LaBare, Barr, etc. My line is from Canada and descended from Jacques Genest Dit LaBarre. He had come with the Soilders of the Carignan Regiment in 1666. You can find the 1666 Canada census on line, but it will give you only his name. His wife, Catherine Doribeau. was a fil-de-roi, a daughter of the king. This might have meant that she came from a convent. After serving 3 years with the Regiment, the soilder can settle down with a wife, a few acres of land, a horse and a gun. This is what Jacques and Catherine did in 1669 in the il de Orleans, Montmorency I, Quebec, Canada.
