Hi Corey:

Just to clear some things up for you, there are at least three very distinct Labatt family groups in Canada: (1) descends from a French immigrant who settled in New France (Quebec) in the mid-1600s, (2) descends from your Labatt ancestor, and (3) descends from John Kinder Labatt, who settled in Ontario in the early 1830s, and bought into a London, Ontario brewery in 1847. His name still lives on as Canada's largest brewing firm today. John Kinder Labatt himself descends from Andre Labat (aka de Labat), the Huguenot soldier granted land in Portarlington, Co. Laois (Queen's Co.), Ireland in the late 1600s. Some of Andre's family wound up in the Youghal, Co. Cork, Ireland area.

I have included extensive details about John Kinder Labatt's ancestry and brewing offspring in my book, On Tap: The Odyssey of Beer and Brewing in Victorian London-Middlesex (Ontario, Canada).

Cheers,

Glen C. Phillips
