Lest you think I am going soft, Robert's confirmation does bring another thought to mind. I find it interesting that even without his parent's presence, he chooses to go by the name, DELABERGE.
Was he using this spelling in New France? Or was he perhaps using his "formal" name on the formal occasion of his confirmation? Or was he a sentimental soul who used it in honor of his father?

Anyway you look at it, if his father didn't spell his surname with an 'a' I doubt that Robert would either. It seems more likely that it's an error.
