Great Sleuthing Philip....your a chip off the olde block!
Have you contacted the Chateau de La Barge owners to ascertain whether they have any records of where their people dispersed and when? We only need about 400 years of their records to reach Jean de La Berge - a piddling 20 generations!
If you dont write French well, I could try a letter which I am sure will confuse them completely. I am sure Lucien or Jo Ann would help me out so that I don't start WWIV.
