Lampela Family Genealogy Forum

Hi Glenn, do you work for a fire dept in Larium? I think I came across your name before. My dad is a John and so was his dad. I think maybe named after and uncle or cousin. Most of the Lampela kids were namesakes. My gggrandfather(Henry)came over in the late 1800's and worked in a copper mine near Mohawk. They had several children. Three or four males who may have married and kept the name going(maybe your relatives). My grandmother did an extensive family tree, and if you'd like one, I can send it to you. It could be that they came over to join other relatives, and that's where some of the other Lampela's are coming from, or its my ggrandfathers siblings whom my grandmother did not follow. Its a six generation tree and it tells about Henry and Stina coming over from Finland with their children. Maybe we can make a connection between some of the Lampelas in the UP. We have planned our reunion for July but had to have it downstate. Not enough people willing to travel all the way up there. The next one will definitely be in Mohawk. We only have three Lampela males left in our family to carry on the name. Not sure if I can picture any of them having kids, although they are all still under 30 and then you have to keep your fingers crossed that at least one has a boy.
- Just looked up a John Henry (Johan Henrick)in my book born Sept 10,1876 to Henry. He also had another son, Andrew who married, and they may have named a son John after him. Bet its John Henry though, do you have his middle name? Send me a mailing address and I'll get this out to you. Might be fun to look over and get some info before your reunion. I live in Nevada and will be still be going up to the UP when I come out in July for the reunion. There is still a family house in Mohawk and I'm dying to see it. Well, take care. Danielle Lampela
