Hello Jack -- 1st, Jackson Co Ga marriage of Zachariah Lay, Jr. to Amelia Speller - Have looked at the original records at Jackson Co courthouse - marriage recorded in marriage record book 1, psage 139 - Amwlia's name is recorded as SPELLER. All of the bad spelling, we receive from the few folks who could write during these early days {though they all spelled same words differently}. My 3rd GGmother was a LAY from this part of GA and I am now into research on the Lays of GA. Have lots of info on Zachariah Lay SR. but not much on son Zachariah Jr.
He, along with parents and some siblings, moved from Jackson Co GA to Fayette Co TN, where Zachariah Sr died {still looking for will / estate settlement said to have been probated in Fayette Co TN}. Zachariah later moved to Haywood Co TN, as did several other Lasy families from this line.
Zachariah Lay JR and Amelia Speller had following children -
Hoeace, Martha, Derby, Green, and Elizabeth. I have nothing on them except names - no dob, pob, or marriage info. I have not found the surname RICKMAN in my searching - Would love to chat about this posssiable marriage of Zachariah's dau, Martha, to this Andrew J. Richman. Look forward to hearing from you - dtmcelhannon at sbcglobal.net Dennis T.
