I don't know if you still check this site, but I was reviewing the latest responses when I came across your message.
I have an ancestor, Henry Layman, who once lived in Union Co. Family history says that he was born in 1842 in Jay County, IN. He had several siblings of which one was Lucendia. I am wondering if this might be your Lucinda. The information which I have does not state exactly when the family lived in Union Co but it does say that Henry "returned to Union Co after serving in the 84th Ohio Regiment" during the Civil War. The information also says that the family originally moved from Eastern PA over the Allegheny Mountains to Union County sometime after 1830.
The names which I have for Henry's parents are David Layman and Elizabeth Cratinger. They were married in 1830 in Eastern PA. Family legend says that the name was originally spelled LEHMAN and the we came from Holland to eastern PA during the early settlement of Colonial America. Elizabeth's name was originally Van Cratinger and her family came from Massachusetts Colony. Her parents were Peter and Rebecca.
All of this information is from a document which my father researched while he was in college. He passed away several years ago and I have not been able to substantiate any of the information concerning the early years. I have found references to Henry Layman who served in the Civil War from Union Co. And I have found bits and pieces of other information of ancestors since then. But I have not found any information concerning any of Henry's ancestors.
If you would like the text of the document, I would be glad to send it to you.
