Aha! I had them as Thomas J. Leavell and Emma Read. They had Jessie, Kemp, Carrie (who joined the DAR, thus providing us with helpful data), Eleanor, and James. Thomas was the son of James Monroe Leavell (December 10, 1810 unknown place--December 02, 1863 Randolph County, Indiana) and Matilda Jones (October 03, 1833 Monongalia County, West Virginia--1910), who were married April 01, 1855 in Delaware County, Indiana.

James Monroe was the son of Ezekiel Leavell and Nancy Wood. Ezekiel was the son of John L. Leavell and an unknown wife. (It gets tricky here. R. S. Dill, in the 1881 book HISTORY OF FAYETTE COUNTY, reports: "John Leavell was born in Virginia, and served seven years in the Resolutionary War. In 1786 he started, with his family, from Culpeper County to remove to Kentucky, but stopped in Greenbrier County, where, in the winter of 1786/87, he died, and his widow, in the spring of 1787, came on to Morrison's Station, Kentucky, where her boys erected a log cabin, into which they removed. Shoftly after this, the unfortunate lady was watching her elder son cutting down a tree, and imagining it would reach the cabin, in her excitement, ran under the tree, and was killed.")

John L. was the son of Edward Leavell and Elizabeth Vaughn. And so on.

Going back to Matilda Jones, her parents were Jacob Jones (1797--1879)and Bursheba Haymond (1806--1884). They were married in about 1824.

Check out my website for details. (Well, not on the Jones family, but on the Leavells.)

Whoo-hoo! It's fun when you actually connect, isn't it?
