Hiram A. Ledford (=/-1805 - 1880+) was married to a woman named MARY, no last name available. She was born about 1803 and died sometime between 1858 and 1870. I am descended from their daughter Carolina Sophronia. My quest is to find out about this Mary, Carolina's mother. One of her daughters was Amanda J., my next in line ancestor. Within my mother's family, legend has it that Amanda was 1/4 Cherokee. There are accounts of my grandmother talking about the "golden skin" of her great aunts. However, I had a mitochondrial DNA test and my female line is NOT Native American, it is Haplogroup I (I as in I'm insane for pursuing this). Also, the male lines (Ledford and Keener), at least for that section of lineage, trace directly to England, Ireland, and Germany. So aside from the obvious questions this raises on paternity and a possible adoption, the Mysterious Mary maybe had Indian or slave blood from her father. Or, finally, that the myth of the Cherokee blood is just a myth and some of the Scots-Irish could actually get a tan ;-) Anyway, all you folks who are smarter than I am and have more experience in this have some ideas. I will continue doing records research (breakin' rocks). Best regards, H Notify Administrator about this message?
