I lived in N.C. for awhile. I researched my mother's family history. I was interested in Ft. Defiance as I was told that my ggggrandfather helped build the fort. His name was Edmund Jones. I talked with Mildred McDowell Jones and exchanged letters with her up until her death. She was married to Eugene Patterson Jones. She told me that I was kin to some very prominent people in N.C. history; that the Pattersons, McDowells, and Jones were all kin. I have visited Ft. Defiance and the Chapel of Rest at Patterson. There are cemetaries at both locations. Reading the tombstones is like reading pages out of history books. By the way Mildred McDowell Jones is buried at The Chapel of Rest. She was the person who headed up the restoration efoorts for Ft. Defiance. She told me she was an authority on history, because she had lived through so much. I would be interested in any information on the Jones. Sincerely, DC
