I share my ancestry in case it should prove helpful to others researching same/associated names, and in case of someone having anyt further info. Ruggiero LEONCAVALLO: born pre-1769 (based on min 20 years pre-birth first child); died pre-1809 (not in Bari state records 1809+). Believed lived in Bari or Trani. Spouse not known, nor any other info. Only child known: Domenico LEONCAVALLO: born 1789 (aged 33 in 1822), possibly Bari / Trani; died 1851-67 possibly Napoli. Spouse: Gelsomina MASTROPASQUA (b 1789 Trani d/o Pantaleo M & Marianna CROCE; died not known); married 1806 Trani Cathedral. They lived in Bari 1810-26 (1812 Strada S.Agostino; 1816 Strada Ronchi; 1820 Strada S.Teresa); from at least 1850 (but possibly as early as 1839) Napoli (Via Gagliardi 12). They had 9 children: (1). Leone: born c1807-08 Bari (birth record not in civil registers at Bari which only start 1809, so assume born as shown; died 1836 (cholera); Engineer & architect. Single. No children. (2). Giovanna: b 1810 Bari; married Donato STUCCI (no record Bari 1821-46, so place & date unknown). No further info. (3). Nicola: born 1812 Bari; died post-1875 Napoli. Leader of forum of legal experts at Napoli. Residence: from at least 1873 Via Tribunali, Napoli. Married Maddalena FRAIA (d/o Antonio) 1869 Napoli - most likely 2nd marriage; first marriage not found. Children: Ruggiero: b c1850-59 Napoli. 1875 living at Via Tribunali 5 with Nicola. No further info. Alfredo Maria: born v1857 (aged 45 in 1902 when witness to death record of aunt Clara w/o uncle Giuseppe (see below) in which his occupation given as Journalist. In 1875 both brothers wrote to Cardinal Archbishop of Napoli in which they gave their address. No further details regarding marriage, death, etc, but he certainly had children: Nicola, a daughter, and Tommaso - only latter known to have issue: Anna (b 1917), Alfredo (b ?), Eva and Ada. (4). Vincenzo: 1814-1814 Bari (5). Ruggiero Maria Saverio: born 1816 Bari; joined Jesuits at Napoli 1829; ordained at Salerno 1843; 1848 left Jesuits to teach letter writing but retained contact with clergy of Napoli. Died ca 1865-67 Napoli. (6). Maria Giuseppa: born 1818 Bari; died "of heartbreak over love affair forbidden by her father" - date unknown). No further info. (7). Teobaldo Vito Giacomo (known as Giacomo): born 1820 Bari; died 1863 Napoli. 1838 joined Jesuits; 1843 ordained priest at Napoli; 1853-60 parish priest San Giuseppe, Chiaia, Napoli (where he baptised composer-nephew Ruggiero 1857); 1860-62 parish priest S. Maria della Rotonda & Rector of Gesu Nuovo, Napoli; 1862-63 parish priest of Duomo, Napoli. (8). Vincenzo born 1822 Bari; died 1888 Potenza; Soldier 1840-42 VI Reggimento Farnese; magistrate from at least 1850. Spouse 1: Giuseppa Gaetanna Carolina TRIPALDELLI (b 1822 Napoli; d 1853 Ascoli - daughter of Francesco T & Mariantonia VACCA, Landowners at Caserta); married 1851 Caserta. Spouse 2: Virginia D'AURIA (b 1832 Napoli; d 1873 Arezzo, d/o Raffael D'AURIA & Maria Giuseppa ZAPPALLI); married 1854 S.Giuseppe a Chiaia, Napoli. Spouse 3: Giulietta POLOSA (b 1837 Potenza; d 1900 Potenza); married 1876 Potenza. Children: Leone: born c1851-55 Napoli (as details unknown, not known if from 1st or 2nd spouse). He was living in Napoli 1868. Said to have emigrated, but not known where or when. No further info known. Ruggiero: born 1857 Napoli; died 1919 Montecatini Terme; spouse Marie Bertha Jean RAMBAUD (birth not known, but died 1926 Montecatini, d/o Teresa PAUT) ; married 1888 but not known where. Composer of repute. Gastone: born 1873 Napoli; died 1937 Montefoscoli, Palaia (Pisa); married Jeanne BARDIN - no details known about her or when they married. He became director of orchestra at Opera Comique, Paris, and was a solo concert violinist. No further details known. (9). Giuseppe Maria Tommaso: born 1826 Bari; died 1907 Firenza. Involved in March 1848 uprising in Milano, after which he had to flee Italy to Egypt. In Egypt, started as journalist, then became Director of Press at Egyptian Foreign Ministry; later judget at Mixed Tribunals, Alexandria. Spouse: Clara TREVES (b 1836/37 Cairo; died 1902 Alexandria aged 66 - adopted daughter of Augusto Maria TREVES & Enrichetta de ROUSSIER); married 1853 The Assumption, Cairo. Giuseppe left Egypt - and his wife (!) and was in Italy 1898 Montelupo Fiorentino, Firenza, where he married in 1903 Caterina Susanna SCHLEIDT (b 1852 Langenderbach. There were 7 children from 1st marriage: (1) Enrichetta Carolina: born 1854 Cairo; possibly died as a child as no further records found about her, and in view of forename of another sister born later. (2) Leone Carol: born 1856 Alexandria; died not before 1894; became Secretary General Postal Services Cairo, then journalist. Spouse: Contessa CAPRARA (no further details known about her); married 1882+. Believed couple moved to either France or Italy. Nothing further known. (3). Edoardo Ernesto: born 1858 Alexandria; died 1931 Alexandria. Became Customs Officer in Alexandria. Spouse: Gioia ZANGARONZIANOS (Italianised into ZANGARUSSIANO; formerly Greek national; born 1866 Alex; died 1943 Alex); married 1893 Alexandria. Children: (1). Ruggiero Vladimiro Renato: born 1895 Alex; died 1957 Alex; Chief Accountant National Bank of Egypt. Married Evelina BORG (b 1898 Alex; d 1994 Lyon) 1947 Alex. She was repatriated 1962 to initially Rome, then moved to Lyon. (2). Giorgio Giuseppe Luigi: born 1901 Alex; died 1984 Ligura, Italy. Spouse: Lina GANI (b 1906 Alex; d 2001 Ligura) married 1934 Alex. Issue: One child: Edoardo Ruggero born 1936, architect, still living in USA and has issue. (3). Emma Anna Luisa: 1904-1918 Alexandria (4). Emma: 1864-1864 Alexandria (5). Ida Adalgisa-Maria: born 1867 Alexandria; died 1911 Elexandria; married Pietro Maria Raphael Octavio JOANOVICH (b 1861 Cairo; died 1934 Alexandria, son of Andrea JOANOVICH & Silvia BIAGINI) 1885 St Catherine, Alexandria. Children: Ivan Battista Aime: b 1886+ Port Said?; died aged about 7 years. Ildegardo Maria Giuseppe: b 1891 Port Said; d 1951 Alexandria; Court Clerk, Alexandria; married late in life but no details known at all. Vanda: 1894-1894 Alexandria Maria Antonietta Ida Lucia (known as Marie Antoinette): b 1897 Alexandria; d 1968 Essex, GB. Married Sydney Charles Robert HICKS (b 1889 Alex; d 1941 Cairo) 1921 Cairo. They had two children, one of whom is my mother Marjorie born 1923 Cairo who married David Pontet-Piccolomini 1944 Cairo, from whom I am first born (of 14!) in Cairo 1945. (6). Enrichetta Matilda Armand: b 1870 Alex; d 1951 Alex; musician; married Aristide AVIERINO (b 1858), an employee of Ottoman Bank, Alex, in 1898 in Greek Orthodox church, Alexandria. No children. (7). Umberto: b 1875 Alex; d 1945 Alex; Official representative Bank of Belgium, Alexanddria. Married Ione PATTONICO (b 1882 Alex, d 1936 Alex) 1903 Alexandria. There were 9 children: (1). Clara Elvira: b 1904 Alex; d 1966 Geneve; piano teacher; married Othmar BALZER (date unknown). Two children: Marie Christine b 1934/36 Alex; married Enzo BORSETT0 (Italian). Son Roberto. No further details. Roberto b 1939; married Stepheny (maiden name unknown; American); lives/lived in Geneve. (2). Flavio Giuseppe Umberto: b 1905 Alex d 1965 Mestre; Chief Accountant SCALA. No marriage; no children. (3). Vico: b 1908 Alex; d 1981 Alex; tradesman; single; no children. (4), Adriano Umberto: b 1909 Alex; d 1991 Mestre; employee Phosphare Co, Kosseir; married Divina d'ANDREA di PESCOPAGANO (b 1914 Alex) 1949 Cairo. Only children from wife's first marriage of which she was widowed. Emigrated to Milano & Venice. (5). Leon Massimo Seveso: b 1911 Alex; d 1935 Asmara; employee SCALA; single; no children. (6). Leone Ettore: b 1912 Alex; single. Nothing further known. (7). Pierelba Marie: b 1914 Alex; language teacher; married Josef GRAND (d 1980) 1939 Alexandria. Now (@ 2006) living in Switzerland. (8). Nadia Armanda: b 1923 Cairo; broadcaster Radio Cairo; single; living in Cairo; son Silvio Flavio b 1946 Alex; living today with wife & son. (9). Maria Giovanna: b 1923 (twin) Cairo; teacher; married Giuseppe Di STEFANO (b 1922 Alex) 1948 Alex). Child: Fiorella maria b 1950 Alex who has two children Valeria & Andrea. I am also in contact with a few LEONCAVALLOs who emigrated to USA (there are more there than in Italy!), but currently none appear related to my branch.
