Thomas Lindley, Sr b. 25 April 1706, d. 14 Sep 1781, buried at Spring Friends Cemetery, Alamance Co,NC
Married: Ruth Hadley on 21 Dec 1731 in New Garden MM, Chester Co,PA. Thomas and Ruth had 12 children, including their 10th daughter Eleanor Lindley, born 15 Nov 1750 in PA. Eleanor married George Maris on 18 Apr 1770 in Cane Creek MM, Orange Co,NC
For your info, Thomas Lindley was my 5th Great Grandfather.
According to my research he remained true to his Quaker beliefs till he died on 14 Sep 1781. Thomas gave the land for Spring Friends MM and was buried in the cemetery there.
Remaining true to his Quaker beliefs, Thomas did not bear arms nor take sides in the American Revolutionary War. Thomas opened a grist mill on Cane Creek in 1756. It was only a few hundred yards to the East of Lindley's Mill where the Battle of Lindley's Mill occured. Thomas died the day after this battle but of normal causes.
It was said that he helped tend to the wounded soldiers in Spring Friends Meeting house and many of those that died are buried in the Spring Friends Cemetery.
Janet, I know this does not help your friend with the DAR application. Have found no proof of patriots in this line.
James Lindley, b. 22 Nov 1735, (oldest son of Thomas) was hanged for treason for being caught fighting for the British at the Battle of Kettle Creek,GA.
