Is anyone connected to the people mentioned below, this is a copy of an email I recently received:

I read your message about Fanny (Frances) Linney with interest. My great grandfather was James Linney who was the brother of your Frances. Frances was born on 18th September 1847 and James was born on 12th November 1842 - both in Levenshulme (Frances' certificate says Back Levenshulme) registered in the Chorlton District in the sub-district of Ardwick. Their mother was Mary Linney formerly Walton (from Lymm in Cheshire)and their father, James, was a weaver from Heaton Norris although he latterly becomes a gardener (his profession on Frances' marriage certificate)and eventually dies on 14th March 1874 at the age of 60 at 81 Everton Road, Chorlton upon Medlock. The informant of his death was a T Linney who I think was Thomas - another brother to Frances and James. At the moment I think Frances had 3 sisters (Elizabeth born around 1834, Hannah born around 1855 and Mary born around 1850) and 6 brothers (Edward born around 1836, John born around 1837, Thomas born around 1839, George born around 1841, James born 12/11/1842, and Samuel born 29/7/1845). All this is gleamed from the 1851 census where the family are living at 130 Woods Houses, Levenshulme and from the 1871 census when they are living at 29 Glebe Street, Gorton. James Linney's father was Thomas Linney according to the 1851 census as he was living with them and he was a hatter so I'm assuming that there is a connection to the hatter Linney's referred to in the museum in Stockport. I know very little about the generations before Frances but I found Frances' marriage certificate in the Manchester Records Office in St Thomas', Heaton Norris. She was 21 (married on Christmas Day 1869) and one of the witnesses was James Linney - this is either her brother (my great grandfather) or her father. Do you have any other information on the Linneys?
MD

Hope to hear from some else connected to them.....Hilary
