I recently learned that my wife has a descent from Lt. Simon Lobdell of Milford, Connecticut. So far I have found various websites claiming that Simon was the son of a Nicholas Lobdell, and different dates of birth and death are assigned to that Nicholas. A few references on the internet (such as this one) trace the genealogy of Nicholas back several generations. I would be very interested to know what evidence there is to say that Lt. Simon was the son of a Nicholas Lobdell, amd what evidence supports extending Simon's lineage back to the early 1500s or late 1400s.
