WHAT IS KNOWN ABOUT ANNE LOCKWOOD, DAUGHTER? OF?RICHARD LOCKWOOD OF MD: She married David Long 20 May 173_ [1.Register of St. Martin's {Anglican} Parish 1722-1839/40, p4 (pagination from DAR transcription; 2. FTM CD#44 from MD Historical Society "____Longe to Anne Lockwood May 20_."] Their children were Mary b 18 Feb 17_, Elizabeth b 29 May 17_, David b 16 Dec 1740, Ann "Nancy", Benjamin, Rachel, John, Miriam, Armwell, Joyce [Register of St. Martin's {Anglican} Parish 1722-1839/40, p4 (pagination from DAR transcription)] Anne and David Long lived near present day Frankford (in 1785), in southern Dagsborough Hd, Sussex Co DE [1785 Sussex Co DE Dagsborough Hd Tax Assessment List] probably on "Forrest Flower", patented 1733-1748, Somerset Co MD by David, "part of Cypress Swamp south of Vines Creek." When David filed his warrant this area was Baltimore Hundred, Somerset Co MD, by the time he received his patent in 1748 the area had become Baltimore Hundred, Worcester Co MD and when he wrote his will in 1785 the area was Dagsborough Hundred, Sussex Co DE. Anne and David attended church (after 1757) at Prince George's Chapel, "Dagsbury" built 1757 as a chapel of ease of St. Martin's {Anglican} Church, Worcester Parish, Showell MD as David Long was listed as a pew holder at Prince George's Chapel. [Vestry Minutes of St. Martin's, p63] A David Long is also listed as a pew holder at the new St. Martin's Church, Showell MD finished in 1761. [ibid, p76] Anne outlived her spouse David as she is mentioned in his 1785 Sussex Co DE will, probated in 1791. (One of the witnesses to David's will was Benjamin Lockwood of Richard; Ann and David named a son Benjamin.) WHAT IS NOT KNOWN ABOUT ANNE LOCKWOOD AND HER FAMILY: Was her father Richard Lockwood as is widely stated? Where is the proof? Anne was not mentioned in the nuncupative Will of Richard Lockwood, Som MD 1737 [cited in Nancy Merrill's post]; he mentioned dau Rachel Evans(also married by 1737), granddaughter Elizabeth Russell and, even though he bequeathed his property to the 3 younger sons, the "oldest son Armwell" received one shilling. Why did Anne not receive at least 1 shilling when Armwell and Rachel did? What was Anne's birthdate? Who was her mother? Anne did name her first dau Mary and named her 2nd dau Elizabeth (the name of David's mother). "Mary" was the wife of Richard Lockwood at his death in 1737, but where is the proof that this "Mary" was his wife at the birth of the children born 20/30 yr. earlier? Was Anne's brother Armwell Lockwood of Richard? Anne named a son Armwell, a name which, as far as I have found, appeared in only the Smith, Showell, and Lockwood lines up until this time on the Eastern Shore of MD . Armwell Lockwood moved to Kent Co DE after his marriage to Mary Holland in 1730/31. Did he relocate to join other Lockwoods in Kent? Or, was his wife a Quaker and they moved to join a more active Quaker community? Ann and David's dau Elizabeth married a Quaker and migrated first to Kent Co DE and on to OH; Ann's son Benjamin married Ruth Tharp, supposedly (again no proof) the dau of John who migrated (with Quakers?) from QA Co MD to Kent Co DE. Two of Ruth's brothers married Quaker widows. Where did Anne Lockwood meet David Long? Could it have been in Kent Co DE sometime between 1730 and 1735 through Armwell? David was b abt 1712 in Kent Co MD, later Queen Ann's Co. [Partial History of An Anglo-American "Long" Family: Eastern Shore Maryland to Western PA, manuscript by James Overhuls, 1975.] Did David migrate directly to the area south of the Indian River in DE/MD or did he stop over in Kent Co DE? David Long is not found on the Somerset MD Tax list prior to the 1742 formation of Worcester. If he and Anne were living on his patented property south of the Indian River after their marriage abt 1735, he should have been on the Somerset Tax list as this area was at that time Baltimore Hundred of Somerset Co MD. In 1740 there is a David Long in Bogerternorton Hundred which included Snow HIll but I believe this to be one of the 2 Davids, from another Long family, previously found in Annamessex Hundred. Was Anne married at St Martins which in 1735 was in All Hallows Parish of Somerset MD; or, was she married elsewhere and the marriage later recorded along with the births of all the children on one page in the Register of St. Martin's Church? What was Anne's death date? The date 1791<Delaware> given in Family Search Ancestral File v4.19, AFN:2063TKW was submitted by Charles Schultz who wrote to me that he got the information from Lloyd Matthews whose widely disseminated online informtion on this family does not agree with my research. 1791 is the date of the probate of the will of David Long written in 1785 which mentioned wife Anne.
