My Lofton family settled Lofton's Prarie in Jersey County, Ill. Judge John Guy recieved a land grant in 1820, and is believed to have moved his family about 1823. I have collected research done by others on the Lofton family tree. I have a lot of collected stories, but very few referenceable sources. Judge John Guy Lofton (b May 19, 1773 in NC, d Apr 7, 1832) is my ggggf (on my mother's mother's mother's father's side). My gg-Uncle Roy wanted to compile 3 generations of history for each of his father's brothers and sisters -- he has a lot of it.Uncle Roy and various correspondents did the research from late 1960's - 1980's. Judge John Guy LOFTON and Agnes GILLIAM (many different spellings) had 11 children, 2 died as young children. John Guy LOFTON b.May 19,1773 probably in NC, m. Jan 1,1794 in Pendleton, Oconee, SC, d. april 7,1832 in Lofton's Prarie, Jersey Co., Ill, buried in Newbern Cemetery (dod on headstone is reported to be incorrect). Father Samuel Lofton, Sr., Mother Sara Love (or Neel?) Agnes Gillham/GILLIAM b oct 19, 1776 in Augusta, VA. d. Feb 12, 1844 in Jersey Co., Ill, buried in Newbern Cemetery. Father William Gilliam. Mother Jane McDow. They moved to Kentucky, and then to Illinois. The Newbern Cemetery is near Dow, Illinois. My info shows a lot of interaction between the Lofton, Gilliam, and McDow families. I am happy to share what I have (although I must confess that I can be slow.....) Children of John Guy and Agnes are: Albartus (All Bartes) Lofton, Sarah G Lofton, Thomas Gillham Lofton,Samuel A. Lofton, Jane L. Lofton, Mary (Polly) T Lofton, John E. Lofton, Caroline Lofton, Matilda Lofton, William O. Lofton. Children of Albartus Lofton and Lucinda Chapple are: Jesse Ellis Lofton, John Guy Lofton, Grace Agnes Lofton, Thomas Wesley Lofton, Thirza Malinda Lofton, Walter Albartus Lofton, Mahala malinda Lofton, Mary Jane Lofton, Epphriam Perry Lofton, Emma (Ermo) viola Lofton, Ezra Ambrose Lofton.
