A biography/family history of Sen. Henry P. Lowe is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 787 & 788. Henry Lowe was the first senator from Roosevelt County, MT. Henry was born at Stordahl (near Trondjem), Norway, 13 Jun 1877, son of Peter and Carrie Lowe. At age 5, he came with his parents to the US and settled in Canton, SD. His father became a section foreman on the Chicago, Milwaukee, & St. Paul Railway and subsequently moved his famiy to Sanborn, Iowa. Carrie Lowe died in Canton in 1885. She was the mother of Eric (Seattle); Henry P. (MT); Martin (Hemmett, CA). Peter's second wife was Helen Jordahl & they had six children. Henry Lowe's early education was in Canton, SD, and Sanborn, IA. Most of his early training was working on farms and ranches in South Dakota. In 1900, he went west to work on ranches in Washington and Oregon. In 1903, he located to Culbertson region of Montana to file on a homestead, after spending two years as a ranch hand north of Bainville. Farming and raising horses, he developed the highly successful 1,000 acre Mar Car ranch. He was one of the incorporators of the second farmers elevator built in Montana. In 1915, he organized the Farmers Mercantile Company of Culbertson and served as its president until 1919. He was vice president of the First National Bank of Bainville. In Nov 1918, he was chosen as a member of the Montana Senate and served on many committees and commissions. On 27 Dec 1909, Minneapolis, Henry married Miss Edna Bair, born, 27 Mar 1886, Franklin, IL, daughter of Daniel and Margaret (Breugh) Bair, both of German ancestry.
