I am researching Nathaniel Lowe, born 1812 in County Westmeath, Ireland, brother Stephen supposed to have settled near Tyrrellspass among other places; Nathaniel entered the Royal Irish Constabulary in about 1834, married in Galway and died in northern Ireland. I have been putting together a fascinating tale. My research had so far turned up the informtion that a group of Lowe's who shared a slightly unusual group of clan names lived in a small section of County Westmeath and County Offaly/ Kings. Names were Stephen, James, Nathaniel, Andrew, Thomas, William, John, George. Some families didn't repeat every name in the pattern. Two brothers named George and William Lowe, officers in Cromwell's army, were given huge grants of land in respectively Moycashel Barony (Kilbeggan area) and Newtown manor, in the mid 17th century. They had a brother Thomas about whom nothing more known, and a father, John, who was buried near Dublin in 1638. They Came from Worcestershire. OK, five people, one of them elsewhere on the web, have collectively posted this story. The four people who posted the story here have subsequently disappeared, seven to ten years ago, and may possibly not be living or not on the web. James Lowe was descended from one of FIVE brothers who fought for Cromwell and settled in Westmeath. Five. Count them, five. LOL. But the rest of the tale actually leads same way the logic of the story I had leads; to George, who had seven sons, of whom I know about just one; Samuel, who had a son Samuel. James settled in the 18th century in Boston, Moate, County Westmeath. He had variously six sons and 1 daughter, or seven sons and two daughters, and the latter version has names attached to them. 1. James had no issue who lived. 2. John married Sarah Wilson, and had two sons who went to Canada. Now, there's a generation missing here, because the other person who wrote of John had a father for him, son of probably James; sounds like she found a birth document that is hard to read. John Hayes Lowe b 1796 in Moate, married abt 1812 Elizabeth Blackburn, they went to Ohio and offspring ended up everywhere, and one of the offspring, John, married Sarah Wilson. Now this Wilson family was very distinctive; the two families tightly intermarried. Four Wilson siblings must have married into this Lowe family. 3. George enlisted and was lost - and it seems like this may not be the first I've heard of such a story. 4. Samuel had three sons and seven daughters. 5. Tom had 5 sons and 2 daughters. (I've an idea he may have gone to Canada - but not necessarily. Lotta Thomas Lowe's living in that area in mid 19th century) 6. Nat - or Nathaniel - issue in Connaught. PLEASE don't tell me that's Connaught province, ie, Galway, Tuam area, where my Nathaniel b 1812 married and had his first son baptized. He didn't stay there. Or on the other hand, DO tell me, if that clears up my mystery. 7. Stephen. Two sons; James and Robert; Robert allegedly had 25 children. Could ANYONE who knows more of the history of this family please contact me. On the forum or privately. Thanks! Yours, Dora Smith tiggernut24@yahoo.com Notify Administrator about this message?
