John T. Lowe, D.D.S.

SHREVEPORT, LA - Dr. John T. Lowe, 86, died from complications of Alzheimer's disease on October 15, 2009. After a private graveside burial, a memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church on Monday, October 19, 2009 at 12 p.m. This celebration of his life will be conducted by Rev. Carl Rhoads. A reception will follow in the church parlor.

John was born in Minden, Louisiana on October 6, 1923 to Erma Fulbright and John T. Lowe, Sr., who passed away in 1929. Erma married Robert L. "Dugan" Brown in 1935. Dugan helped raise John, and Erma and Dugan would later become special grandparents to John's children.

John graduated from C.E. Byrd High School in 1940 and attended Centenary College before beginning his dental education at Loyola University School of Dentistry in New Orleans. After graduating from dental school in 1945, he served for two years in Vienna, Austria as an officer in the U.S. Army Dental Corps. In 1947, he returned to Shreveport to begin his dental practice in the Medical Arts Building and practiced true "family" dentistry for 41 years. Most of his patients were friends, and he will always be remembered as a gentle and caring dentist.

John is survived by Sheila, his beloved wife of 62 years; his son Dr. Bruce Lowe and wife Kathy; and his son Scott Lowe and wife Ginger. John is also survived by five grandchildren and their spouses: Elizabeth Davis and husband Jon; David Lowe and wife Tena; Michael Lowe and wife Nicole; Katherine McCrary and husband Kevin; and Anna Weber and husband Ryan. He also was blessed with seven great-grandchildren.

John's honorary pallbearers will be Dr. William Baldridge; Dr. William Tenney; Dr. James Weyman; Rufus Youngblood; David Lowe; Michael Lowe; Dr. Jon Davis; Kevin McCrary; and Dr. Ryan Weber.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful caregivers at the Yellow Cottage at The Glen and the dedicated staff of the Northwest Louisiana Veteran's Home.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial gift to First United Methodist Church, the Alzheimer's Association , or the Caddo Council on Aging "Meals on Wheels" program. Rose-Neath Funeral Home
