              LULAY, LULEY, LULAI, LULEI, etc.

This forum is intended for all descendents of progenitors named LULAY--- without regard to present day spellings.

The most common spellings are: LULAY and LULEY, with variants LULAI, LULEI, then occasionally LULIE, LULLEY, LULY, LULLY and LOULIE.
Spelling variants AULA and ULAY are found in the 15-1600's.

The majority of these LULAY ancestors were born [1635-1895] in, or near, HEPPENHEIM, Bergstrasse, Starkenburg kreis, in the Grand Duchy of HESSE-DARMSTADT, later called Hessen, Germany since 1866.
Hesse-Darmstadt was never a part of Prussia.

Many LULAY's still live in Heppenheim, and we wish to hear from them. Our Deutschland cousins are strongly urged to post messages to this family forum.

HEPPENHEIM [population 25,419 in 2000] is the seat of government of Starkenburg. Some of the nearby hamlets, villages and towns are:
Bensheim, Biblis, Erbach Lorsch, Kirschhausen, Lindenfels, Moerlenbach, Hambach, Ober-Hambach, Unter-Hambach, Ober-Laudenbach, Ober-Liebersbach, Sonderbach and Wild-Erlenbach.

To a lesser extent the LULAY surname is found in Belgium, the Duchy of Cornwall in Britain, France, the Netherlands, Prussia, Switzerland, Italy, Romania, Australia, the Philippine Islands, and in Surinam, South America, where LULAY is identified as a Jewish surname. Most LULAY's born in HESSE [80%] were Catholic while LULEY's born in PRUSSIA [20%] were Evangelical Lutheran.
