They could be related--don't have enough information about other descendants to tell. There were many Maas/Maass families in Teterow during this period. My ancestor is Johann Christian Maass christened 14 Jan 1759 in Teterow, married Sophia Henriette Leopold 23 Nov 1785, died 20 May 1840. He had 8 daughters and 2 sons; one of the sons died in 1795, age 4. The other was christened "Christian Rudolph Maass" on 15 Jun 1796. Christian Rudolph was alive and living with his parents when the census of Teterow was taken in 1819. What became of him after that I don't know. It's possible he was your ancestor's father... However, there were several other Christian Maas/Maass about his age in town. Thanks for your reply! Suzanne Brown
