RE: James Davis (MSG # 480 this forum) seeks info on his Mabe / Davis line. My G3 g.father, John Davis named a son, Mabe/Maby, b. 10 Jan 1822. Mabe d. in the 1840's in White Co., IN.
I understand that Mabe/Maby translated in Welsh means "son". The name through use eventualy bacame a surname perhaps used interchangably with "ap" under the old Welsh patronymic naming system.

The fact that John named his son Mabe could indicate a relationship to Samuel Davis. James Davis is inactive, but if anyone knows him or shares his heritage please contact me. Samuel Davis could be related to Abel Davis, father of John.
