JULIA NORTON MABES
Julia Norton Mabes, age 74, of Speedwell, was born May 3, 1928 in Union County, passed away January 12, 2003.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Willie Mabes: son, Chester Mabes; parents: Darcus Norton and Ben Houston: sisters: Mary Lawson, Tenna Savage and Nancy Williford.
Survivors include her sons, daughters and spouses: Esco and Georgia Mabes of Sidney, Oh. George Mabes of Speedwell, June Mabes (daughter-in-Iaw), Speedwell; Paul Mabes of Pique, Oh., Oscar and Melissa Mabes of Port Jefferson, Oh., Bonnie and Bruce Collins of Speedwell, Mary and Earl Houk of Mt. Vernon, Ky., Buster and Donna Mabes of Speedwell, Arnold Mabes of Sidney. Oh., Margie and Frank Baird of Williamsburg. Ky., Hazel and Tim Owens of Speedwell, Willie Mabes and Susie Edwards of Speedwell, Ruby Davis of St. Paris. Oh, ; sixteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren: a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 14 at Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church with Larry Anderson. Jimmy Branscomb and Bill Rhymer officiating.
Music by Pleasant Hill Singers and Crystal and Amber Hamblin.
Burial in New Salem Cemetery .
Pallbearers: grandsons and sons-in-law: Steve Surber, Mike Surber, Jamie Mabes, John Houk, Jessie Owens, Bruce Collins,Tim Owens. Jordan Mabes, Ethen Mabes and Derek Mabes.
Reece Funeral Home and Valley Chapel in charge. 869-3651.



MABE, CHESTER - age 46, of Speedwell, Tenn., husband of June Harmon Mabe, passed away June 9, 1997, at his home. Funeral services 8 p.m. Friday, Reece Valley Chapel. Graveside 10 a.m. Saturday, Carr Cemetery. Visitation 6-8 Friday, Reece Funeral Home & Valley Chapel. 869-3651 or 626-4249.



Steven Ray Surber, II, age 31, of Speedwell, passed away August 12, 2006 due to an auto accident. He was born in Harlan, KY August 10, 1975. He was of the Baptist faith & worked at Clayton’s in Rutledge, TN. He enjoyed 4-wheeling in the mountains.
He was preceded in death by a very special nephew, Carmon Blake Surber; grandparents, Willie & Julia Mabes and Armor & Francis Surber; and an uncle, Chester Mabes.
Survivors include:
Mother; Bonnie Mabes of Speedwell, TN;
Father; Steve & wife Judy Surber of Frankfort, KY;
Brother; Jerry Michael Surber of Tiprell, TN;
Half-Sister; Cecilia Surber of Frankfort, KY;

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home & Valley Chapel with Rev. Bob Owens officiating. Music by the Partin Family. Burial 2 p.m. Thursday at the Wilson Cemetery of New Salem Church. Pallbearers: Jamie Mabes, Jessie Owens, Randall & Donald Goins, Timothy Boring, Hoss Mattingly, Josh Holmes, Jessie Leach, & Jeff McDonald. Honorary pallbearer; Steve Oscar Orick.
