Jim,

Thank you for the referral to the Texas Handbook. My gggrandfather served in the 38th Miss Cav that was part of Mabry's Brigade during the Civil War. Gary Mabry is a freind of mine from school. I was trying to see if by chance Gary was related to Hinchie Mabry. At first I thought Hinchie was a nickname but actually it is an old family name. I can't remember if it is Scottish, Irish or English but the name goes way back into history. Did Hinchie Mabry live in Webster at some time?

Jefferson, Texas rivaled Galveston as a port city at the time of the Civil War. I have been to Jefferson. It is a neat little town with lots of history. The town looks like its been preserved in a time capsule. There is a fascinating reason why it has survived as time passed it by. Its a good story. I will try to get more info on Gary's ancestors to compare to info you might have. Gary's family moved from Waco to Houston. He did have ancestors from Tennessee and Mississippi.

Thanks for your help.

Mike
