Hi, Dona I noticed in your posting that your Nancy Humphries is supposed to be descended from James and Sabrina Humphries. James and Sabrina were also the parents of Eldred Humphries of Morgan Co.,AL. A descendant of Eldred's has been found to be a 37/37 Y-chromosome DNA match with a descendant of William Humphries who lived in Pendleton District, SC from about 1795 to 1828. Postings on the web indicate that James was born in Isle of Wight County VA about 1797. I have not been able to find any evidence that a Humphries family was living in Isle of Wight County at that time, But there is a census record for James Humphries indicating that he was born in SC, so that would go along with his match to William Humphries of SC. William had several sons noted in censuses that we have not identified. We don't know that he had a son named James, but the name James is found among several grandsons. This family was big on reusing names, so I have often wondered if one of William's unknown sons was named James. Something else interesting is that William's father, John Humphries, sold land in North Carolina in the late 1700s to a Parham Mabry for a very small sum of money. Often selling land to someone for a very small sum indicated a relationship of some kind. Does the name Parham Mabry ring any bells with you? Let me know if you are interested and I will see if Eldred's descendant would be interested in corresponding with you. Also, he and I have done some research and it appears that James's wife Sabrina was Sabrina Jordan. She is supposed to have been born in Franklin Co., GA in 1809 and had a brother named Eldred. Her parents appear to be Thomas Jordan and Joanna Hains. There is evidence to support these assertions. Hope to hear from you. Charlene Notify Administrator about this message?
