I am also descended from the Hugh MacArthur who emigrated from Scotland to PEI in 1770 on board the Annabella. The belief that Hugh's descendants are connected with the General is widespread, but I haven't been able to make any connection.

Genealogy of General Douglas MacArthur can be found at http://www.rootsweb.com/~rwguide/notable/macarthur.htm

General Douglas MacArthur, born 1880 in Arkansas.
Father: Arthur MacArthur born 1845 in Massachusetts.
Grandfather: Arthur MacArthur, born 1815 in Glasgow, Scotland. (no further details included about the MacArthur line in Scotland)

As "Annabella" Hugh left Scotland in 1770 for PEI....the connection must be back in Scotland.

Anyone else have anything to contribute?
