Hugh Finlay from Glasgow. In 1850 had company called Finlay, Armour & Co.

Moved to Liverpool and involved in the cotton trade...

Hugh Finlay joined firm of Lawrence and Lance which after his joining became Finlay, Lawrence, & Lance. Lawrence retired in 1860 and the company's name was changed to Finlay, Lance & Co. Then in 1864 and 1865 Helenus Robertson and George H. Robertson joined the firm. As lance retired in 1865, the same year that George had joined, the company became known as Finlay, Robertson & Co. In 1875 Finlay retired and both Robertsons retired in 1884.
