Looking for any information on the ancestors of Hugh MCKAY, who was born 17 Sep 1809 in Lockerbie and died 17 Nov 1864 in Brockville, Ontario, Canada. He married Mary COPELAND c.1827. She was born 09 Apr 1807 in Lockerbie, daughter of William and Helen. Mary died 24 Aug 1881 in Brockville, Ontario, Canada.
Hugh and Mary had about 11 children, all of whom were born in and around Lockerbie.
I have Hugh's mother as a Janet MCDOWALL, but I am not sure how accurate that is.
I also have a brother of Hugh, named Charles born c.1811.
I know that the MCKAY/MACKAY clan was from northwest Scotland, but I have never found a connection with my MCKAY's.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
