Anyone here connected to the Mannions from Stockton-on-Tees? Michael Mannion was born 1851 somewhere in Galway. He was in Stockton by the 1881 census as was his father Patrick (probably his father - on same census, same surname, 30 yrs older than Michael but down as unmarried!!! - could be an uncle). Anyway Michael's father was also called Patrick - I have that from marriage certificate. Michael married Margaret Gordon and they had eight sons and a daughter. I don't know if we have any chance at all of finding out where in Galway this family was originally from. There is rumour that they emigrated to the US (to a steelworks in Pittsburg) but came back to UK again. They were missing from the 1891 census so it may be true.
There must be hundreds of descendents of this family and I only know of 2 other people who are trying to do the genealogy (and getting nowhere as well).
Hope someone can help or give suggestions where to look (other than trying to trace every Michael Mannion/Manion from Galway, born in 1850s who had a father Patrick. How do other people trace these elusive mannions???
